Using voiceband noise masking, the TSU defeats telephone taps by jamming eavesdropping devices which utilize high impedance coupling (resistive, capacitive, or inductive), RF Bugs, tape recorder activators, direct taps (line interface devices), extension telephones, and lineman's handsets. Moreover, the TSU electronically isolates the telephone and provides protection from hookswitch bypass bugs, RF flooding, infinity devices, or electronic triggers. (The TSU provides an internal ringer replacing the telephone ringer while the telephone is decoupled from the line.)

Telephone analyzers will completely miss high quality taps unless accompanied by sophisticated "Time Domain Reflectometry" which may produce false alarms and may no locate the tap. The TSU provides a practical approach to the problem by using jamming and isolation to protect the user's telephone line as far as the central switching office. When additional security is desired, multiple TSU's may be used in conjunction with voice scrambling or encrypting devices.

* Note: The TSU is designed to protect private lines and not recommended for multiple line systems. Many businesses are utilizing digital telephone systems that have features such as "call transfer" and "pickup on multiple lines." These types of phone systems will not operate properly with the TSU. For security reasons, we recommend a single private line combined with a TSU and possibly a scrambling/encrypting device for discussing sensitive information.
